Intro
When a leading video game and collectibles retailer prepared to handle trade-ins for a new VR headset, they needed more than just a shipping box. They needed a cost-effective solution that could organize multiple components, protect them in transit, and deliver a professional unboxing experience.
Problem
The new VR headset included several fragile parts — a headset, controllers, wires, and an AC/DC adapter. Traditional packaging designs risked damage during opening, disorganized components, and limited stacking strength. The retailer wanted packaging that was both functional and refined, ready for high-volume trade-in programs.
Solution
- Designed a tuck-top box with dust flaps to create a polished, easy-opening experience.
- The tuck top design is better than an RSC-style package in this use case because it prevents knife damage to components during opening and improves stacking performance with dual-layer corrugated strength on three sides.
- Added internal inserts to form distinct compartments for each component, enhancing organization and protection.
